ResNet 2000 was initially supported by an Athena Project development grant; the Athena Project receives its core funding from the UK Higher Education Funding Councils, the DTI and CVCP.

The aim of the Athena Project is to increase the number of women employed as postgraduates, research staff, lecturers through to professors, in science and technology, and to facilitate initiatives which ensure their retention and progress in the sector.

Funding for ResNet is currently provided by UEA, JIC and IFR. In addition to this, ResNet participated in the Athena Awards (November 2002) and won the Pearson Prize, securing £4,000 of funding for future network activities.
